ST. JOHNS — A quick follow up to our reporting on the January passing of Dr. Pete Davis, a veterinarian who served St. Johns and North Portland for more than 50 years.

A GoFundMe fundraiser was created to raise money toward a memorial bench that will be installed outside his old clinic along Lombard Street and Fiske Avenue. At least 39 people have donated toward the $3,000 goal, raising $3,021.

The GoFundMe was created by a former receptionist at the clinic, Heather Maskell, who wrote that one of Dr. Pete’s favorite things to say to clients was to “get out there and enjoy that sunshine.”

She said they are hoping the bench can be installed outside the clinic in his memory so that people can enjoy the sunshine.

She said any excess money from the GoFundMe would be applied to help pay for his headstone.
